We didn't know anything about the Awa tribe before the tree planting ceremony but here are some of the knowledge we (room 10 children and adults) shared with each other after we came back. This knowledge comes from what we heard at the tree planting ceremony, from our parents and teacher, books, t.v and other places too.
- We planted it for the Awa tribe.
- They live in the Amazon.
- Their home is being destroyed by loggers who are cutting down the trees.
- If the trees are cut down the birds and animals and people won't have homes.
- The birds and animals will die, which is not fair.
- We are planting a tree for them so we think of them.
- We can pray for them when we see the tree.
- They are being greedy (the loggers) by just cutting the trees down and not planting more.
- We need trees for oxygen.
- We planted a kowhai tree.
- It is a native tree and will attract native birds.
- Native means it comes "from" that place.
- You can be born in Japan but if your parents come from New Zealand, you are still a native of New Zealand.
- We might be in the newspaper.
